Today and yesterday we've been working with Stanhope Primary School in Weardale on a project to video an interview with one of Stanhope's senior citizens. Working with the year 5 & 6 group with the enthusiastic support of Mr. Sean Myers their teacher. On Thursday myself, Rachel & writer Chris Powell (also Rachel's next door neighbour) took the class into Ashes quarry where we met Stan Harrison, a former quarryman, who told us something about the history of this old quarry. Today, Friday, we set up a 'TV studio' and Stan took questions from the audience. The kids were amazing and the shooting went like a dream. Although there are still two working quarries in the dale there are few folk left who remember the old working methods. Next week we'll be doing a little more work on video, writing, drawing and photography to create a show for the rest of the school and mums and dads.
